Welcome to the museum of legacy technology.

Prior to the deregulation of telephony in many countries of the world, it was illegal to make a direct electrical connection to the telephone network, so technicians needed to concoct a work-around.  In 1955 the modulator/demodulator (modem) was invented, allowing use of audio telephone lines for data communication.

Livermore Data Systems Inc. was a small firm from Livermore, California that made acoustic modems. Their products were a compatible replacement for the Bell 103 and 113 modems and were designed to be used with the usual serial interface on early terminals.
