The Vatican could be ginning up a boycott of the "Angels & Demons" film, Ron Howard's big-budget follow-up to "The Da Vinci Code.  This movie became the first big-screen casualty of the Hollywood writer's strike of 2007 when production of the movie was postponed because the main screenwriter was out with the rest of the Writers Guild.  This movie is to premier on May 15th.  Director Ron Howard hated that the Writers Guild strike forced him to shoot the film during summer, where crowds gathered to watch the filming of scenes, and some would even sing the Happy Days theme at him.

Angels & Demons is the latest bestselling novel written Dan Brown who gave us "The Divinci Code" a few years back.  The plot is actually a prequel to the Da Vinci Code and involves a quest (as always) of the fictional Harvard University Professor and symbologist Robert Langdon.  His job this time is to unravel a mystery surrounding the Illuminati and to try to prevent them from annihilating Vatican City with an antimatter bomb. The story relies upon the historical conflict between science and religion.  In this movie there is a clear point of conflict between the Illuminati and the Roman Catholic Church.  Somebody is holding a grudge.

In the Da Vinci Code Robert Langdon was called upon to solve a series of riddles that could help catch a killer and at the same time tell us something about the secret personal life of Jesus.  The wind-up of that movie even features the solving of the mystery of the holy grail.  In Angels & Demons Mr. Landon uses his training as a symbologist to decode symbols that are actually clues that will lead him to the bad guys of course.

Symbology is the study of symbols or symbolism.  A Symbol is a word, phrase, image, icon or some other figure that represents something else by association, resemblance, or convention.  Symbols are used to represent complex esoteric relationships, ethereal concepts or something invisible and intangible.  Symbolism is a language.  This language could be intended to be taken at face value or it could represent things that are intended to be hidden.

In this picture Langdon uses his knowledge of symbology to help investigate the murder of Leonardo Vetra  a scientist working at CERN and a priest. He is researching antimatter when he is murdered.  The plot of the movie involves "The Illuminati" and an attempt to do away with the Vatican by using a bomb that was created as a result of the scientific discoveries at CERN which is in Switzerland and is the site of the world's largest supercollider.
