We will keep the Tinman thread open for convo and his reveal. I do not want to dominate that thread with my method. So here it is!
I am ready to show a demonstration of how to neutralize the gate on a magnet motor.
This setup is not Totally Optimal, but it clearly shows how we can make a rotor that attracts on the way in, repels on the way out, and how we can eliminate the sticky spot.

Balancing N and S neutralizes the bolt.
Bringing about a balance in forces has to be accomplished
without expending just as much energy as can be gotten out of
a repositioning of the magnets in order for them to next,
do work.

For an update with my experiments with this:
The bolt method may be able to be used some way.. But probably NOT by using magnets as a stator. Once you place magnets near the magnetized bolts, the magnets stick to the bolt and overpower the bolt's domain alignment. So the balance to neutralize bolt to magnet is extremely difficult.
But I can get a magnetized bolt to attract to metal alone with "some" pull strength. OR I can get the neutralized bolt to have no interaction with a second neutralized bolt.
So my initial conclusion is, this method may be viable in some fashion. But it is not as easy as just throwing arc magnets around it.

Maybe to get around the magnet and axle issue, you could make a bearing race that goes around the outside of the magnets? Think of a large bearing for a 2" or 3" shaft, keep the center fixed, raise the inner and outer races with circular spacers, mount your magnets in the middle and put your bolts on the rotating outer race.
