Here is a test I made. I used a power tool universal motor and soldered h bridges to the commutator with microcontroller.  As you can see from the output waveform, current reversal kills the desired effect of of virtual rotation. Although a ragged sine wave appeared on the output, "RPM" increase did not increase output voltage and the machind acted as an inefficient transformer. Kind regards, Sandy.

Hi Jim. I didn't get to reply till now and your post is gone. I wonder why I did not see the same effect? I had 6 H bridges in my experiment. So half the resolution or number of commutator segments that you had. My set up maxed out at about 100hz and then didnt increase in output V beyond that frequency. I partly attributed the failure to current reversal at switch off. I'm keen to try with a variable resistance some time like in the patent. Yes I'm watching your progress. Thanks, Sandy.
